Australia's Red Center

In May 1999 I went to the Red Center of Australia. The following photographs chronical a five-day trip to Ayers Rock, the Olga's, Kings Canyon and Alice Springs.

Unfortunately there was not enough time to fully appreciate the culture of the local aboriginal tribes (the Pitjantjatjara and Yankunytjatjara people collectively known as the Anangu) but the appetite was wetted and being there amongst the sacred sites certainly gives one an awareness and respect for our native Australians.

ULURU, AYERS ROCK - A selection of photographs ranging from distant perspectives to the inevitable sunset series. Also a few shots of the "ants" climbing up the rock.

KATA JUTA, THE OLGA'S - This formation is a series of some thirty-six separate domes of rock approximately 50 kilometers from Ayers Rock.

KINGS CANYON & THE ALICE - A few shots of the canyon weathered into the sandstone, and then an exciting balloon trip above the desert at Alice Springs...
